Overview

An established manufacturing company is seeking a Material Handler to support its shipping and receiving operations. This role is essential to ensuring materials move efficiently and safely through the facility, keeping production and shipping schedules on track while upholding a collaborative and ethical work culture.

What you'll do

  • Perform primary and back-up functions within the materials department according to manufacturing schedule and workload
  • Load and unload material when trucks arrive
  • Receive material into the ERP system, assign proper locations, and transfer material using forklifts, carts, or other means
  • Make transactions in the ERP system for part location and issuance of material to production jobs
  • Pull and deliver material required for Manufacturing and Assembly, including kits needed for shipping
  • Build shipping crates and boxes and prepare material for shipping according to work instructions
  • Create shipping documents and schedule freight pick-ups
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Strive to meet or exceed customer expectations and support continuous improvement in daily processes
  • Inspect goods and packaging for visible damage upon receipt and prior to shipping

Required qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years of related experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Demonstrated personal accountability, discipline, trust, and proactive action
  • Must be dependable, hardworking, have a sense of urgency, and willing to work in a team environment
  • Must be willing to train and act as back-up for each function within the Shipping/Receiving Department
  • Must be able to read and write simple correspondence and have basic computer skills
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally; loads over 50 pounds require two people or a lifting device
  • Must be certified to drive a forklift and use a crane to move heavier material
  • Must be capable of pushing and pulling a rolling cart around the shop floor
  • Able to open and build shipping crates using common tools (hammers, pneumatic nail guns, crowbar, etc.)
  • Awareness of forklifts and cranes operating throughout the facility
  • Able to move around the shop floor and negotiate ramps and uneven floor surfaces
  • Able to work in varied conditions such as extreme heat, cold, dust, noise, fumes, and other typical shop elements
  • Able to reach up and across the body
  • Must wear safety glasses, steel toed shoes, and other required PPE
  • Subject to random drug testing due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position
