Overview
A century-old, well-established food manufacturing leader in the Greater Madison, WI area is seeking an experienced Industrial Refrigeration & Electrical Technician to join its 2nd shift team. This direct-hire role supports critical ammonia refrigeration and electrical infrastructure within a clean, safety-focused facility operating under strict Process Safety Management (PSM) guidelines, offering a stable schedule and long-term career anchor for a skilled industrial technician.
What you'll do
- Execute preventive maintenance, fault-tracing, and emergency repairs across high-capacity ammonia (NH3) refrigeration loops, screw compressors, evaporative condensers, and chillers
- Inspect, test, and repair plant power distribution systems, 3-phase motor control centers (MCCs), industrial control circuits, and automated machinery electrical panels
- Partner with safety leadership to enforce compliance with PSM, Risk Management Plan (RMP), and OSHA protocols
- Perform mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and utility maintenance to support uninterrupted 2nd shift production
- Complete daily system logs, record pressure/temperature parameters, and document work orders within the digital CMMS platform
Required qualifications
- 2+ years of hands-on industrial ammonia (NH3) refrigeration system maintenance experience
- 2+ years of industrial electrical and 3-phase power troubleshooting experience
- Ability and willingness to work a permanent 2nd shift schedule, Monday through Friday
- Stable job history demonstrating strong attendance and long-term workplace commitment
- Residence within a 45-minute driving radius of the Greater Madison, WI area
- Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder (Lawful Permanent Resident)
Preferred qualifications
- RETA Certification (CARO or CIRO designation preferred); company-paid sponsorship, coursework, and testing available for uncertified candidates
- Prior experience in a USDA, FDA, or SQF-regulated food processing facility
- Ability to read ladder logic or troubleshoot low-voltage PLC inputs/outputs on automated cooling systems
Compensation and benefits
- $42.00 – $44.00/hour starting base rate
- Premium overtime: time-and-a-half after 8 daily hours, guaranteed double-time on Sundays
