Overview

An established manufacturer of electrical products is seeking a Senior Product Design Engineer to join its engineering team in the Columbus, OH area. This hands-on technical role is responsible for designing, developing, and sustaining electrical products while partnering across Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and Customers to deliver reliable, cost-effective solutions that meet performance, quality, and regulatory requirements. The position also carries mentorship responsibilities for other engineers and technical staff.

What you'll do

• Lead the design and development of electrical products from initial concept through production release
• Produce and review engineering calculations, CAD models, drawings, specifications, and bills of material
• Support prototype builds, testing, and validation efforts, analyzing results to drive design improvements
• Contribute to product qualification, life testing, and compliance testing activities
• Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure designs are manufacturable, repeatable, and cost-effective (DFM/DFA)
• Provide engineering support during production issues, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
• Engage in value engineering and continuous improvement initiatives
• Evaluate customer requirements and feasibility, assisting with technical solutions for customer applications
• Collaborate with Quality, Supply Chain, and Sales teams to resolve technical challenges and support product launches
• Take part in annual budget planning and cost reduction projects
• Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers, reinforcing best practices in design, documentation, and problem solving

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• 6+ years of engineering experience including electrical product/component design
• Experience with Autodesk CAD tools and engineering analysis methods
