Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a Phlebotomist to support multiple locations in the Alexandria, VA area on a float basis. This is a contract role with an anticipated duration of three months and potential for permanent placement, playing a key part in specimen collection and laboratory workflow support.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required
• Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy
• Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
• Update patient information and troubleshoot workflow issues
• Provide training and workflow recommendations as needed
• Travel to various locations in the Alexandria, VA area as part of a float assignment, working 8am-5pm M-F

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states)
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• Clean driving record
• Reliable transportation
