Overview

A healthcare provider specializing in OBGYN and Internal Medicine services is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist for a contract position based in Falls Church, VA, projected to last 3 months with potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to ensuring accurate and efficient specimen collection and laboratory workflow support within a fast-paced clinical environment.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples according to established procedures
• Collect and store specimens, ensuring proper handling and documentation
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
• Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy
• Package specimens properly for transport, maintaining required temperature and protocol standards
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department training sessions
• Respond to telephone inquiries and communicate laboratory results as needed

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required
• Minimum of 5 work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a related role
• Some college coursework required
• High School Diploma or GED
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
