Chief Engineer – Commercial Laundry Linen Service Plant

Location: Southgate, MI | Schedule: Full-time, on-site | Compensation: Base salary up to $150k, depending on experience

Overview

An established commercial laundry operation serving the linen service industry is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead its maintenance department. This role is central to keeping industrial textile processing equipment and facility systems running safely, efficiently, and reliably.

What you'll do

  • Champion safety as the top priority, ensuring a safe working environment and protection of all company assets
  • Oversee proper maintenance, preventive maintenance (PMs), repairs, and installations on all plant equipment
  • Supervise, direct, coordinate, and assign daily work schedules to hold the maintenance team accountable
  • Develop and implement computerized methods, control systems, and procedures to maintain a fully operational and productive preventive maintenance program, parts stockroom, and inventory system
  • Monitor and ensure efficient use of all utilities, practicing energy conservation through usage reduction and cost control
  • Recommend and communicate capital expenditures, equipment, parts, supplies, and materials needs to senior management

Required qualifications

  • 3+ years of Maintenance Management experience with specific knowledge of machinery, electricity, electronics, plumbing, hydraulics, pneumatics, welder, and boiler applications
  • Commercial laundry experience is required
  • A preventive maintenance mindset with experience managing a PM program in this industry or a similar industry
  • Previous supervisory/management experience with a proven ability to lead and train a team of maintenance technicians
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting ability with 3 phase 230 volt systems
  • PLC programming experience
  • Experience in carpentry, boiler repair, welding, and general facility repairs
  • A team player with enthusiasm, initiative, and pride in work well done; a self-starter dedicated to continual quality improvement
