Lead Plant Operator (Shift Supervisor)

Overview
A power generation facility in Bridgeport, CT is seeking a Lead Plant Operator (Shift Supervisor) to oversee daily plant operations on-site. This role directs the operating plan, ensures safe and compliant performance, and drives consistent, optimal megawatt output.
What you'll do
- Promote a safe and healthy work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring proper use of PPE, programs, and procedures
- Direct, coach, and develop Plant Operators to safely meet dispatch outputs in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Set operational priorities for maintenance-related activities
- Evaluate whether electrical outputs were maximized relative to dispatch
- Oversee all operational activities, using PI and operational data to optimize plant efficiency
- Report abnormal or emergency plant conditions to Plant Management and take corrective action per policy
- Review operational data, log-sheets, and water chemistry testing, taking action to keep systems within expected ranges
- Refer Human Resources and Collective Bargaining Agreement issues to the Operations Manager promptly
- Guide the Maintenance Manager and/or maintenance employees on equipment conditions and required activities
- Maintain the Environmental QA/QC Manual and ensure compliance with environmental regulations; report incidents and near misses to the appropriate parties
- Manage training of Plant Operators and maintain the plant Training Manual
- Prepare reports to Management on Safety, Environmental, and Revenue goal compliance
- Maintain plant Operations Manuals and ensure procedures are current and followed
- Foster positive facility morale and address employee concerns professionally and promptly
- Support inventory tracking and ordering of chemicals, gases, lubricants, and similar supplies
- Assist with screening and hiring of operating personnel as requested
What you'll need
- Five or more years of power plant or similar experience required
- Three or more years of combined cycle experience
- Bachelor's, Associate's, or equivalent formal training highly desirable
- Gas turbine operations experience highly desirable
- At least 2 years of experience supervising craft employees highly desired
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to personal development
- Intermediate computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (including PI) and Word; Red Tag Pro experience highly desired
- Self-starter with strong organizational and analytical skills, able to work effectively in a team
- Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift for continuous facility operations
- Willingness to work overtime, be on call, and cover flexible hours as needed
- Understanding of environmental and regulatory compliance requirements and incident response roles
- Ability to ensure facility operations align with OEM guidelines and sound engineering practices
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team
- Capable of working outdoors in inclement weather for extended periods
- Tolerance for exposure to loud noise, hot pipes, high-pressure steam, and high voltage
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to climb vertical access ladders and stairwells
- Clear speech and hearing ability
- Ability to distinguish colors across the light spectrum
- Ability to sit and review technical documents/monitors for extended periods
- Ability to wear a respirator and required PPE (hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, protective clothing)
- Valid Driver's License required
- Willingness to work extended hours, additional shifts, weekends, holidays, and occasional on-call duty
- Must pass a post-offer physical examination and drug screening
- Must be a U.S Citizen and/or legally entitled to work in the United States
