Overview

An established and highly regarded structural engineering firm is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join its growing Nashville, TN office. This role leads the design and analysis of structural systems across a wide range of project types, including manufacturing, distribution, data centers, commercial developments, historic structures, adaptive reuse, and renovation projects, while mentoring junior and mid-level engineers. The position offers growth opportunities along both technical specialist and leadership career paths.

What you'll do

  • Engage with clients and participate in meetings with architects and contractors
  • Review structural documentation and provide supervision and mentorship to junior staff
  • Lead and oversee structural design calculations, construction document preparation, shop drawing and submittal reviews, site observations, and responses to RFIs
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure deliverables align with client expectations and internal quality standards
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of work prepared by others
  • Mentor and guide the engineering team, supporting technical development, professional growth, and career advancement

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or Structural Engineer (SE) license
  • A minimum of 8 years of structural engineering experience, with emphasis on building design
  • Proficiency with industry-standard software such as Tekla Structural Designer (TSD), ETABS, SAFE, SAP, Microsoft Office, Bentley RAM products, RISA, EnerCalc, Adapt, etc.
  • Project management experience or capability required
  • Experience designing with a range of materials and systems, including steel, concrete, and masonry, for low- to mid-rise structures
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated, open to learning, and committed to continuous improvement
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a passion for mentoring and developing junior engineers
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Takes full ownership and responsibility for assigned work

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Prior people management experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Revit preferred
  • Client management experience is a plus
