Overview

An established, privately held manufacturer with a long operating history is seeking a Tooling Design Engineer to lead tooling design, capital equipment projects, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role reports to a Director and works closely with the Tooling Department Lead, offering the chance to support diverse, hands-on engineering projects across a single-site operation.

What you'll do

  • Lead new product introduction from initial RFQ through production launch, including evaluating customer 3D models/drawings, defining manufacturing sequences, estimating cycle times, and ensuring process capability and quality
  • Create 3D CAD models, tooling, fixtures, and technical documentation, and use metal-forming simulation software to validate material flow, blank development, springback, and forming sequences prior to build
  • Establish and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, work centers, standard cycle times, and operational standards within the ERP system
  • Execute hands-on tooling tryouts, perform root-cause analysis, and optimize OEE by reducing scrap, rework, setup times, and downtime
  • Scope, cost-justify (ROI), and manage timelines and budgets for major capital equipment purchases, collaborating with external vendors from selection through installation
  • Support multiple engineering projects simultaneously at various stages, working both at a desk and in the tool room or on the manufacturing floor
  • Communicate directly with customers in a professional manner

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
  • Minimum of five years of similar experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Tooling design experience
  • Experience determining manufacturability of parts
  • Experience completing the RFQ (request for quotes) process
  • Experience with BOM creation in an ERP system
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Experience with 2D and/or 3D software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel

Preferred qualifications

  • CNC programming
  • Metal fabrication, stamping, or machining experience
  • Experience working for a privately held organization
  • Automation and robotics experience
  • Capital equipment project management
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Local to the Bellevue, OH area (no relocation package available)
