Overview
An established food manufacturing company is seeking a Senior Utilities Reliability Engineer to oversee and optimize critical utility systems—including industrial refrigeration, boiler, and compressed air systems—across its production facilities. This role offers the opportunity to troubleshoot and enhance existing systems, lead new infrastructure projects, and provide regulatory guidance, all while directly supporting safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing operations.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with facilities and project engineering teams to develop Capital Infrastructure Plans
- Engage professional refrigeration engineering resources during project design and development
- Support facilities and PSM Management Team with compliance-related matters as needed
- Assist in developing designs, selecting equipment, obtaining quotes, and scheduling work
- Develop and help implement resolutions for facility refrigeration system issues
- Implement new systems and standardize equipment requirements
- Assist with planning and budgeting for utilities engineering improvement projects to meet expectations and timelines
- Optimize utility systems based on facility operating requirements
- Research and assist in testing new technology
- Assess complex operations and systems to support Operations management
- Identify and correct system deficiencies by performing load, charge, and relief calculations
- Lead multiple efforts across different fields, ensuring adherence to proper protocols and practices
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering or a related field, and 5+ years of related experience in operations, maintenance, and optimization of Ammonia Refrigeration systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- RETA CIRO (Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator) certification, International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration; ANSI/IIAR2 certification; Garden City Program Operator II certification; or equivalent certification from another nationally recognized ammonia training program
- Deep theoretical understanding of industrial refrigeration systems, with the ability to apply that knowledge to job responsibilities
- Strong reading, math, writing, and analytical skills
- Ability to perform assigned tasks efficiently with minimal supervision
- Willingness to travel to other locations up to 50% of the time
- Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment
Preferred qualifications
- Electrical experience and troubleshooting in low and high voltage circuits, motors, and controls a plus
- Wastewater operations experience preferred
Compensation and benefits
- $95K -117K plus bonus
