Overview

A manufacturer of electrical products in the Ann Arbor, MI area is seeking a Senior Product Design Engineer to take technical ownership of electrical product design, from early concept through full production. This is a hands-on engineering role that blends new product development with sustaining engineering support, and it includes mentoring other engineers as part of the team's technical growth.

What you'll do

• Take electrical products from concept through production release, including design and development work
• Build and review engineering calculations, CAD models, drawings, specifications, and bills of material
• Run and support prototype builds, testing, and validation, then analyze results to drive design improvements
• Contribute to product qualification, life testing, and compliance testing efforts
• Work with Manufacturing Engineering to confirm designs are manufacturable, repeatable, and cost-effective (DFM/DFA)
• Troubleshoot production issues, lead root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
• Drive value engineering and continuous improvement projects
• Evaluate customer requirements and feasibility, helping shape technical solutions for customer applications
• Coordinate with Quality, Supply Chain, and Sales teams to resolve technical issues and support product launches
• Contribute to annual budget planning and cost reduction initiatives
• Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers on design practices, documentation, and problem-solving

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• 6+ years of engineering experience that includes electrical product/component design
• Experience with Autodesk CAD tools and engineering analysis methods
