Overview
A leading organization in the title insurance and commercial real estate services space is seeking a Senior National Commercial Title Underwriting Counsel to join its team. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex commercial real estate transactions, providing underwriting guidance, risk assessment, and strategic support to internal stakeholders and clients across the country.
What you'll do
- Provide title underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel, agents, and customers related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies
- Apply underwriting standards to assess risk and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Provide guidance to internal teams on commercial real estate settlement services and transaction structure
- Develop and communicate underwriting guidelines and best practices in alignment with organizational standards
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support efficient and successful transaction execution
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required qualifications
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school required
- Active Bar Admission in New York, in good standing
- 5+ years of substantive experience in national title insurance underwriting or comparable commercial real estate experience in a law firm setting
- General understanding of the process of title underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policies
- Ability to interpret and apply title insurance underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits
- Solid understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of commercial real estate transactions, title insurance, and settlement processes
- Familiarity with applicable commercial real estate law, including federal and state regulations
- Strong relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders and externally, with clients and others
- Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage significant transaction volume, multi-task, prioritize, and follow up in a timely manner
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
- Effective communicator with strong negotiation skills, delivering guidance with clarity, professionalism, tact, and diplomacy
- Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, with the ability to assess risk and provide practical solutions
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to act decisively when needed
- Creative, solution-oriented approach to resolving complex, multi-state, multi-property title challenges
Compensation and benefits
- Salary range: $200,000 – $350,000+
- Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements, qualifications, and geographic location
