Overview
An established engineering and construction organization with more than 40 years of successful project delivery is seeking a Civil Engineer to join its growing land development and civil infrastructure team. The firm maintains a strong backlog of commercial, industrial, municipal, and land development work across Massachusetts, and this role offers the chance to take on increasing project responsibility while working alongside experienced engineers, designers, project managers, and construction professionals from concept through construction.
What you'll do
- Prepare and support civil engineering designs, calculations, specifications, and construction documents
- Design grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility infrastructure, roadways, parking facilities, and site development improvements
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, or similar modeling software
- Develop erosion and sedimentation control plans in accordance with Massachusetts regulations
- Review technical documents, calculations, and engineering plans for quality and accuracy
- Support management of multiple projects, including schedules, budgets, client communication, and coordination
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, architects, municipalities, and regulatory agencies
- Assist in preparing project scopes, proposals, schedules, and cost estimates
- Help monitor project progress and proactively identify solutions
- Prepare and coordinate permitting packages with agencies including MassDEP, MassDOT, Conservation Commissions, Planning Boards, Zoning Boards of Appeal, and Municipal Departments of Public Works
- Support compliance with Massachusetts Stormwater Standards, the Wetlands Protection Act, municipal subdivision regulations, local zoning requirements, and NPDES requirements
- Conduct site visits and construction observations
- Review RFIs, shop drawings, change orders, and contractor submittals
- Provide engineering support during construction and help resolve field issues
- Prepare field reports and monitor construction progress
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers on a variety of civil engineering projects
- Participate in QA/QC reviews
- Support proposal development and client presentations
- Build relationships with clients, consultants, and public agencies
- Continue developing leadership and project management skills under guidance from senior engineers
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Approximately 5–10 years of professional civil engineering experience
- FE or EIT certification (Massachusetts or transferable)
- Experience with land development, municipal infrastructure, transportation, or civil site projects
- Experience with HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, or similar hydraulic/stormwater modeling software
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Strong communication, organization, and project coordination skills
- Valid driver's license with ability to visit project sites throughout Massachusetts
Preferred qualifications
- Experience working with or supporting Massachusetts permitting processes and regulations
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- GIS experience
- Massachusetts Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of PE licensure
- Experience working with Massachusetts municipalities and regulatory agencies
- Familiarity with MassDOT Project Development & Design Guide standards
- Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects
