Location: Chesapeake, VA | Schedule: Full-time, on-site | Compensation: $60,000 – $70,000 per year

Overview

An established industrial marine and defense coating facility is seeking a hands-on Liquid Coatings Shop Supervisor to lead daily operations. This role is critical to maintaining production output, quality, and safety standards across the coating shop.

What you'll do

• Oversee painters, maskers, and helpers to meet daily production goals
• Set up and operate conventional, HVLP, and airless spray systems
• Ensure compliance with coating specifications, MIL-spec data sheets, and quality standards
• Monitor environmental conditions and track coating material inventory
• Coordinate with QA/QC Inspectors and enforce shop safety standards

Required qualifications

• 4+ years of liquid coatings experience, with 1–2 years in a supervisory role
• Proficiency with epoxies, polyurethanes, and MIL-spec coatings
• Knowledge of masking, surface prep standards (SSPC SP-1 through SP-16), and spray equipment troubleshooting
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check for defense facility access
• Ability to work in an active industrial environment, stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work at heights
• Must be able to wear full PPE, including respirators and coveralls

Preferred qualifications

• AMPP Coating Inspector certification (CCI Level 1 or higher)
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
• Experience in a defense or shipbuilding supply chain environment

Compensation and benefits
