Location: Detroit, MI | Schedule: Full-time, field-based with extensive travel | Compensation: $30.00-$40.00/hour

Overview

A world-leading manufacturer of CNC machinery, machining centers, automation systems, and laser cutting and turning equipment is expanding its nationwide field service team, and is looking to add a Field Service Technician based near Detroit, MI. In this direct-hire role, you'll travel to customer sites across the country to commission new equipment, integrate systems, and troubleshoot technical issues, serving as a trusted technical resource for customers and the sales team alike.

What you'll do

  • Install new equipment at customer locations and support the sales staff with ongoing servicing needs
  • Travel to customer sites to diagnose issues and deliver effective, on-site solutions
  • Demonstrate relevant company software capabilities directly to customers
  • Document all completed service work thoroughly, along with notes on future service needs
  • Prepare timesheets, service reports, and installation forms accurately and on schedule
  • Track expenses and submit expense reports in a timely manner
  • Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with OSHA/MIOSHA guidelines
  • Coordinate and communicate with other internal departments as needed
  • Work overtime hours when workload or customer needs require it
  • Uphold a high standard of customer service and satisfaction throughout every engagement
  • Take on additional duties as assigned by management

Required qualifications

  • Must live within 50 miles of a major airport
  • Able to commit to 90-100% travel
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Comfortable navigating the Internet effectively for research and support
  • Able to understand and apply I/O structure for technical troubleshooting
  • Skilled in using electric/electronic test and measurement equipment
  • Capable of analyzing and resolving technical mechanical or electrical issues based on measured data
  • Able to read and comprehend technical material in equipment manuals or electronic formats
  • Able to accurately document the technical steps taken to resolve equipment and product issues
  • Able to clearly communicate technical issues and resolutions to the corporate office
  • Demonstrated customer service skills with a strong focus on building relationships
  • Highly organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Resourceful, with good judgment about when and who to call for assistance
  • Strong time management skills
  • Effective team player able to work with all levels of colleagues and customers
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

Compensation and benefits

  • $30.00-$40.00 hourly pay
