Field Service Technician – Packaging Equipment

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Remote, field-based with travel) | Schedule: Full-time, Hourly, non-exempt | Compensation: $30 - $37 per hour
Overview
An established manufacturer in the packaging and automation equipment industry is seeking a Field Service Technician to support customers through installation, startup, training, and ongoing maintenance of packaging systems. This remote, travel-based role is critical to ensuring customer equipment performs reliably and that operators and maintenance teams are properly trained.
What you'll do
- Conduct customer pre-consultation, site readiness preparation, and startup monitoring
- Participate in conference calls with sales, project management, and customers to prepare for installation
- Coordinate equipment and system installations and confirm proper system function with customers
- Calibrate HMIs, meters, timers, and temperature seal settings per manufacturer specifications during service or startup
- Train operators and maintenance personnel using established outlines
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment
- Provide phone and onsite customer support
- Diagnose causes of operating errors and take corrective action
- Perform inspections and advise customers on minimizing downtime and interruptions
- Complete service reports and follow through on next steps to ensure continued equipment performance
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of product functions and applications
- Observe all safety rules and maintain tools and supplies properly
- Help maintain parts and service tool inventory
- Assist with the sales quote process as requested
- Assist in producing instructional videos and writing machinery documentation for customer applications
- Take on additional duties as needed, including training other associates
Required qualifications
- High school Diploma or GED required
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, schematics, and procedure manuals
- Ability to review and understand mechanical and electrical drawing packages
- Ability to read wiring diagrams to trace electrical circuits and verify proper operation per manufacturer specifications
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, controls, and instrument issues at shop or customer site locations
- Ability to replace worn or defective parts such as switches, pumps, motors, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, control boards, elements, and defective wiring
- Ability to maintain composure while working with customers, team members, and contractors
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Computer proficiency with Excel, Word, and Power Point
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Valid Driver's License and valid passport or ability to secure one
- Extensive travel required, including occasional short-notice trips
- Availability for on-call support rotation 12 hours per day, 7 days a week during peak season (November and December)
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, talk, hear, and use fingers/hands to operate tools and controls
- Ability to sit for long periods during air or auto travel to job sites
- Manual dexterity to operate required equipment and tools
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
Preferred qualifications
- Associates' degree in a technical field or equivalent plus 3-5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred
Compensation and benefits
- Pay range: $30 - $37 per hour
