Accounting Manager – CPA Firm – Client Bookkeeping

Overview

A well-established, highly profitable regional CPA firm serving the West Los Angeles area is looking for an Accounting Manager to lead client accounting engagements. This role covers full charge bookkeeping, trial balance preparation, payroll, and KPI reporting for a varied roster of clients across multiple industries, and offers a clear path for career advancement.

What you'll do

  • Oversee engagement teams across multiple client accounts, ensuring work stays within the defined scope
  • Maintain bank, vendor, and payroll records on behalf of clients
  • Prepare month-end or period-end packages using either accrual-basis (US GAAP or IFRS) or cash-basis accounting
  • Assist clients with building and maintaining budgets, forecasts, and projections
  • Build and analyze dashboards and KPI metrics for client use
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication with clients and engagement teams to keep timelines on track
  • Interact with clients on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis as needed, or delegate this to senior/staff accountants
  • Monitor engagement budgets, flagging and analyzing any overruns
  • Invoice clients at least monthly and follow up on aged accounts receivable
  • Delegate work to Senior Accountants, Staff, and Interns; review their output and provide supervision and training
  • Participate in business development efforts, including client proposals, networking events, and occasional travel to other firm locations

Required qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience in accounting, with recent experience as an account manager or in a comparable role within industry finance or public accounting
  • Strong, demonstrated understanding of double entry accounting, including both transaction processing and maintenance of accounting records
  • Solid working knowledge of US GAAP along with taxation matters, including individual and corporate taxation, related tax structures, sales taxes, and property and business taxes
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, ideally in accounting or a related field
  • Business-level fluency in English, both written and spoken
  • Willingness and ability to travel to client sites or other firm offices as needed
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, and familiarity with at least one accounting software platform such as QuickBooks online
  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to identify issues, recommend solutions, and work effectively both independently and within a team
  • Availability for occasional overtime throughout the year

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with additional accounting software such as Xero, Intacct, NetSuite, Bill.com, or Concur
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish or another second language is an advantage
  • Specialized accounting knowledge in a particular industry or accounting discipline
  • Active and current CPA license, or equivalent
