Overview
An established mechanical services contractor serving industrial, commercial, and institutional clients is seeking a Project Manager / Sales Engineer to lead HVAC, piping, and plumbing project delivery while driving new business growth. This hybrid role blends technical project management with business development, positioning the company as a trusted partner across its markets.
What you'll do
- Manage and oversee mechanical and plumbing projects of varying size and complexity
- Analyze project design proposals, quoted proposals, and specifications to determine cost-effective solutions
- Lead a project team to ensure technical accuracy and professional quality of deliverables
- Manage project activities throughout the lifecycle, including resource allocation, documentation, and scheduling
- Maintain project schedules and cost summaries to track progress, budget, and manpower utilization
- Visit project sites during construction to provide quality and cost control
- Identify the need for additional resources and assist with shop drawing reviews
- Mentor technical staff and foremen, assigning duties as needed
- Achieve quarterly revenue targets through upselling, cross-selling, and new client acquisition
- Develop and execute a sales growth strategy aligned with revenue and profitability goals
- Identify and target new markets and clients to expand the company's footprint
- Foster new business development opportunities and maintain existing client relationships
- Research, qualify, and pursue opportunities in target industrial, commercial, and institutional markets
- Build and manage a sales pipeline, providing regular activity and conversion reports
- Act as primary relationship manager for new and existing key accounts
- Conduct client business reviews to uncover needs and present tailored solutions
- Represent the company at trade shows, industry events, and networking forums
- Communicate expectations clearly to all stakeholders throughout project delivery
- Prepare and review project requirements, specifications, and competitive estimates and proposals for HVAC, piping, and plumbing scopes
- Partner with the estimating team to ensure pricing accuracy, competitiveness, and profitability
- Customize proposals to highlight value-added solutions and differentiators
- Secure management approval before delivering estimates and proposals to clients
- Collaborate with estimating, operations, and finance for smooth project handoffs
- Provide sales forecasts, market insights, and status reporting to senior management
- Track KPIs including revenue growth, pipeline health, win rates, customer retention, and project cost/schedule performance
- Monitor client satisfaction and ensure technical and service excellence
- Continuously improve sales and project management processes using CRM tools and analytics
- Participate in scheduled performance reviews (e.g., 30/60/90/120-day) to assess progress
Required qualifications
- 10+ years of industry-related experience
- Proven track record in mechanical services project delivery and/or sales (HVAC, piping, plumbing, or related)
- Experience and understanding of HVAC, process piping, and plumbing systems
- Strong understanding of project contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers
- Mechanical and electrical coordination experience
- Demonstrated success in project delivery, project management execution, and business development
- Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines
- Highly effective negotiation, diplomatic, and conflict resolution skills
- Advanced interpersonal, team-building, leadership, and organizational skills
- Strong technical knowledge with the ability to develop estimates and proposals
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical, professional, and upper management staff
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with business units, corporate departments, key managers, clients, and other stakeholders
- Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to travel up to 50% to client sites, project locations, and industry events
- Ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to safely navigate construction and mechanical service environments, including uneven surfaces, noise, dust, and varying weather
- Clear vision and hearing to communicate, review drawings/specifications, and conduct presentations
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred
- Construction experience considered an asset
