Overview

What you'll do

  • Perform technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity
  • Assume full responsibility for larger tax returns and delegate to tax preparers as needed
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge and advanced technical skills necessary for advising clients
  • Oversee client service tasks, ensuring assignments are completed within budgeted time
  • Participate actively in client meetings and tax planning efforts, supporting the Auditing and Accounting Department with larger clients
  • Serve as a resource for tax preparers, specialists, and A&A staff on tax issues and questions
  • Handle tax preparation responsibilities for more complex business returns
  • Assume client service responsibility for assigned clients or those delegated by a Partner
  • Communicate important tax developments to appropriate firm personnel
  • Delegate and manage governmental tax examinations; may represent clients before taxing authorities
  • Ensure smooth flow of tax returns through the preparation system for accurate and timely delivery
  • Adhere to accurate and timely billing and collection processes
  • Participate in firm practice development through referral sources, community, and industry activities
  • Develop, coach, and train Supervising Seniors, Seniors, Semi-seniors, and Staff accountants
  • Maintain familiarity with the qualifications of all tax staff to guide their training needs
  • Participate in reviews and evaluations of the Tax Department

Required qualifications

  • Five to seven years of experience in public accounting, with proven progression in tax complexity, scope, and research
  • At least one (1) year of experience supervising and directing the work of tax preparers
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  • Current and valid certified public accountant’s license required

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in taxation preferred
