Overview

An established defense engineering organization is seeking a Senior Rust Software Developer to help lead the adoption of Rust across multiple embedded software product lines. This role is central to advancing modern software practices within a mission-critical engineering environment, working on the interface of hardware and software systems.

What you'll do

  • Support engineering team members in embedded software application development, specifically with Rust
  • Lead the adoption and deployment of Rust, along with associated techniques, idioms, design patterns, and tooling, across multiple product lines
  • Apply computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis principles to software development for target hardware
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop and evaluate hardware-software interfaces, operational performance requirements, and overall system design
  • Participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, hardware-software integration, and formal testing
  • Investigate root causes of complex issues and implement solutions, independently or as part of a multi-discipline team
  • Develop software test plans, procedures, and other technical documentation
  • Utilize modeling tools and equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests, prototype, and evaluate results
  • Participate in peer reviews and track and repair defects
  • Work with a variety of software languages, primarily Rust, C/C++, and Python

Required qualifications

  • US Citizenship with an Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or a Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of related experience; in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of related experience
  • 3+ years of experience developing Rust software for production systems with a deep understanding of the language
  • Experience with C/C++ development
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience converting C/C++ code to Rust
  • Experience developing Rust software for embedded systems
  • Experience with development of embedded systems
  • Object-oriented design and implementation experience, with exposure to software modeling and UML tools such as IBM Rhapsody or Magic Draw/Cameo
  • Experience developing device drivers and Board Support Packages for real-time embedded systems
  • Experience with Information Assurance and/or cryptography
  • Experience with NSA Type 1 certification or other software certification such as DO-178
