Overview
A rapidly growing high-tech entrepreneurial company based in West Los Angeles is seeking a Principal R&D Engineer to lead wireless technology projects. This role oversees the capture, planning, design, prototyping, and verification of advanced wireless systems, playing a central part in both technical execution and business development for the organization's R&D efforts.
What you'll do
- Provide technical management of R&D projects and programs, including overall system design and requirement specification
- Set and track development schedules and tasks
- Oversee paper design, simulation, software, FPGA, and testing efforts
- Engage directly with customers and prepare technical materials as needed
- Report to management for strategic planning and assessment purposes
- Participate in R&D business development and capture efforts, including whitepaper and proposal preparation
- Understand current technology and pitch future enhancements and strategies
- Communicate via phone, email, and in-person with government and industry contacts
- Collaborate with the senior R&D team on larger, team-wide projects
- Help set a comprehensive team-wide technology portfolio and pipeline
- Perform other related duties as needed
- When necessary, supervise a team of junior or senior engineers on a given project or R&D program
Required qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in a relevant technology field (e.g., wireless communications, signal processing, statistics, optimization, networking, RF design)
- 10 years of experience in the design and development of wireless systems
- 5 years of experience in technical project leadership (e.g., principal investigator)
- Participation in the complete technology development cycle from design to field testing
- Familiarity with simulation and prototyping software such as C/C++, MATLAB, Python
- Familiarity with RF propagation, channel modeling, and digital communication
- Familiarity with wireless ad-hoc mesh networking, medium access, and routing algorithms
- Familiarity with signal processing algorithms including MIMO, OFDM, beam-nulling
- Familiarity with cognitive radio congested and contested spectrum and interference mitigation
- Familiarity with RF sensing, signal detection, and classification
- Technical writing, proposal preparation, and technical presentation skills
- Must be a U.S. person or U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts
- Employment contingent upon successful clearance of a background check
Preferred qualifications
- Expertise (beyond familiarity) in the listed technical skill areas is desirable
Compensation and benefits
- Compensation range: $180k - 250k
