Overview
A defense-focused engineering organization is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to guide a software development team supporting embedded systems for mission-critical applications. This is a direct-hire, on-site role requiring U.S. citizenship and an active Secret clearance, ideal for a technical leader who can bridge hands-on engineering with team management.
What you'll do
- Lead a software development team, analyzing requirements and translating them into working, maintainable solutions
- Plan development efforts, assign budgets and tasks, and track team status
- Measure team performance using EVMS techniques and enforce process across the full SDLC
- Provide project planning, task definition and assignment, and performance monitoring
- Apply object-oriented design and implementation experience, with exposure to software modeling and UML tools such as IBM Rhapsody or MagicDraw/Cameo
- Develop software utilizing Modern C++ tools and standards
- Serve as a subject matter expert in embedded software application development, guiding one or more software engineers
- Investigate root cause of complex issues and implement solutions independently or with a multi-discipline team
- Apply computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis concepts to develop software for target hardware
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering members to develop and evaluate hardware-software interfaces and system-level design and performance requirements
- Support and participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, hardware-software integration, and formal test
- Develop software test plans, procedures, and other relevant technical documentation
Required qualifications
- U.S. citizenship with an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience debugging applications on simulated and target hardware
- Experience using a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS), such as Green Hills Integrity, VxWorks, or similar
- Experience leading a software team/project with strong project management skills
- Object-oriented design and implementation experience, with exposure to UML modeling tools such as IBM Rhapsody or MagicDraw/Cameo
- Experience developing software using Modern C++ tools and standards
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Onsite Only role, based in Camden, NJ
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with EVMS
- Experience with project planning, task definition and assignment, and performance monitoring
- Experience developing device drivers and Board Support Packages for real-time embedded systems
- Experience with Information Assurance and/or cryptography
- Experience with NSA Type 1 certification or other software certification such as DO-178
- Prior RUST experience
