Location: Menomonee Falls, WI | Schedule: Full-time, First Shift base hours with 40–70 travel days annually for domestic and international field deployments | Compensation: Up to $80,000 base salary plus travel per diem

Overview

An established, highly stable global manufacturer of high-performance automated systems is seeking a Field Automation Engineer to support the full lifecycle of its precision equipment. This role blends hands-on shop testing at a state-of-the-art facility in the Menomonee Falls, WI area with international field commissioning, offering a high-visibility seat with direct exposure to leadership and significant technical ownership.

What you'll do

  • Lead on-site machinery installations, system integrations, and final Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) at client facilities worldwide, providing technical guidance to site operators
  • Apply advanced diagnostic techniques to isolate component faults, troubleshoot complex automated machinery, and implement lasting fixes using multi-page schematics
  • Perform PLC and HMI software downloads, verify logic parameters, and safely work within high-voltage (480V) control panels, multi-axis industrial drives, and low-voltage sensor networks
  • Schedule and lead internal Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) prior to shipment, auditing completed machinery to ensure zero-defect quality standards
  • Formulate and submit Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to design engineering based on field insights to improve future machinery design
  • Oversee technical setup, mechanical alignment, and electrical hookup of custom automated equipment for industry trade shows

Required qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience commissioning, servicing, or maintaining complex electro-mechanical industrial machinery or capital equipment
  • Proficiency troubleshooting automated systems, wiring industrial controls, and interpreting multi-page electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic schematics with minimal oversight
  • Full willingness and ability to travel 40–70 days per year, including maintaining a valid passport (or immediate ability to acquire one) for international deployments
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills for operator training, field service logging, and client collaboration
  • Must reside within daily commuting distance of the Menomonee Falls, WI area
  • Must possess a candidate-provided comprehensive mechanical and electrical field service toolset
  • Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder, legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

Preferred qualifications

  • Exposure to troubleshooting or modifying logic in Rockwell Automation (Studio 5000/Logix) or Siemens TIA Portal environments
  • Hands-on experience with precision laser alignment, rigging, and heavy machinery leveling
  • Prior experience delivering structured operator and maintenance team training during equipment handovers
