CNC Field Service Engineer – CNC Machine Tools

Location: Louisville, KY (field-based; territory covers East of the Mississippi, with preference for candidates near an airport and/or in IL, TN, KY, AL, or OH) | Schedule: Full-time, field/on-site at customer locations with extensive travel

Overview

An established CNC machine tool manufacturer is looking for a CNC Field Service Engineer to join its team, with this opening based out of the Louisville, KY area. In this role, you'll be the technical backbone for customers running CNC machine tools, handling everything from installation to emergency repairs at facilities across the country. This position matters because it directly shapes how reliably customers' equipment runs and how they experience the brand's service team.

What you'll do

  • Install new CNC machine tool systems on-site, including all related options and accessories
  • Carry out machine leveling, geometry checks, and final calibration to ensure top performance
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and application-specific problems
  • Pinpoint root causes and recommend fixes, whether that means repair or replacement
  • Deliver technical support both on-site and remotely via phone, email, and other channels
  • Guide customers, distributors, and internal colleagues through technical issues and solutions
  • Train customers and help coordinate related projects as needed
  • Represent the service team at trade shows and company events when called upon
  • Keep thorough service records and documentation
  • Travel extensively (100%), including overnight stays and occasional weekends
  • Take on other duties as required

Required qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience maintaining and servicing CNC machine tools, covering both electrical and mechanical systems
  • 5+ years of experience delivering remote technical support within the machine tool industry
  • Demonstrated track record installing and servicing machining centers, including leveling and geometric alignment
  • Strong command of PLC programming and troubleshooting
  • Hands-on experience with CNC control systems, including FANUC controls
  • Solid grasp of power circuits and industrial electrical systems
  • Strong troubleshooting ability paired with excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (100% during weekdays) and work independently in the field
