Location: Lexington, KY (field-based, covering territory East of the Mississippi) | Schedule: Full-time, extensive travel required

Overview

A established builder of CNC machine tools is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support customers across the eastern United States, with a home base in or near Lexington, KY. In this role you'll be the technical backbone for machine installations and repairs at customer sites nationwide, combining hands-on mechanical and electrical expertise with a strong customer-service orientation. You'll report to the CNC Field Service Manager, and preference is given to candidates based within an hour of an airport and/or located in IL, TN, KY, AL, or OH.

What you'll do

• Install new CNC machine tool systems at customer facilities, including all options and accessories
• Perform machine leveling, geometry checks, and final adjustments to achieve peak performance
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and application-related issues
• Pinpoint root causes and recommend corrective actions, whether repair or replacement
• Deliver on-site and remote technical support via phone, email, and other channels
• Guide customers, distributors, and internal teams through technical problems and solutions
• Conduct customer training sessions and assist with project coordination as needed
• Represent the company at trade shows and company events, providing service support as required
• Keep thorough service documentation and reporting
• Travel extensively (100%), including overnight and occasional weekend travel
• Take on other duties as assigned

Required qualifications

• 5+ years of experience maintaining and servicing CNC machine tools, covering both electrical and mechanical systems
• 5+ years of experience delivering remote technical support within the machine tool industry
• Demonstrated experience installing and servicing machining centers, including leveling and geometric alignment
• Strong knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting
• Hands-on experience with CNC control systems, including FANUC controls
• Solid grasp of power circuits and industrial electrical systems
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service abilities
• Willingness to travel extensively (100% during weekdays) and work independently in the field
