Building Automation Controls Engineer – HVAC

Overview
A building automation and controls services provider is seeking a Building Automation Controls Software Engineer to support new Direct Digital Control (DDC) projects and maintain a variety of building automation systems (BAS), including HVAC. Working under the guidance of the Operations and Engineering Manager, this role blends system programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning to deliver high-quality service to customers.
What you'll do
- Engineer new Direct Digital Control (DDC) projects
- Program, monitor, and install building automation systems (BAS), including HVAC and integrated systems
- Update and maintain the graphical web interface used for system monitoring and diagnostics
- Diagnose and repair issues across HVAC and computer/controller systems
- Perform system testing and commissioning to confirm proper functionality and integration
- Compile and maintain as-built drawings, closeout documentation, and system records
- Ensure systems comply with design specifications and regulatory standards
- Work independently and collaboratively as part of a project team to meet deadlines
- Communicate effectively with customers and team members to maintain satisfaction and quality standards
Required qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents
- Strong troubleshooting skills to differentiate between HVAC and computer/controller issues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and customer-focused
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines independently
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in programming
- Experience with building automation systems, including HVAC
Preferred qualifications
- 5 years of programming experience preferred
- A 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering/Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology is a plus
- Tridium AX certification highly preferred
- Experience with temperature control systems (Alerton, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Trane, Schneider, Siemens) is a plus
- Familiarity with BACnet, DDC, Niagara AX, ALC, Siemens, or Metasys is preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Visio, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience with AutoCAD and PDF software is a plus
