Rubber Materials Engineer – Product Development

Overview

An established manufacturer is seeking a Materials Engineer – Product Development to support the development and commercialization of products using advanced materials, including thermoplastics, thermosets, composites, coatings, and metallic alloys. This role offers hands-on exposure to polymer processing, plastic part design, materials development, testing, and failure analysis across the full product lifecycle, from concept through production.

What you'll do

  • Develop and evaluate new products, materials, and components
  • Support product design from concept through commercialization and production
  • Develop polymer formulations and evaluate material performance
  • Coordinate prototyping, testing, validation, and pilot production
  • Conduct and interpret thermal, mechanical, and chemical testing, including FTIR, DMA, DSC, TGA, and tensile testing
  • Troubleshoot design, material, tolerance, and manufacturing issues
  • Participate in supplier selection, tooling, and cost evaluations
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional design reviews
  • Prepare technical documentation and provide product training
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, Marketing, and suppliers

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Materials, Polymer, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience with Rubber materials, rubber formulation and rubber molding
  • Knowledge of thermoplastic and thermoset materials, testing, and failure analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Willingness to travel globally up to 10%

Preferred qualifications

  • FEA experience with Abaqus or ANSYS is a plus
  • Moldflow Insight experience is a plus
