Rubber Materials Engineer – Product Development

Overview
An established manufacturer is seeking a Materials Engineer – Product Development to support the development and commercialization of products using advanced materials, including thermoplastics, thermosets, composites, coatings, and metallic alloys. This role offers hands-on exposure to polymer processing, plastic part design, materials development, testing, and failure analysis across the full product lifecycle, from concept through production.
What you'll do
- Develop and evaluate new products, materials, and components
- Support product design from concept through commercialization and production
- Develop polymer formulations and evaluate material performance
- Coordinate prototyping, testing, validation, and pilot production
- Conduct and interpret thermal, mechanical, and chemical testing, including FTIR, DMA, DSC, TGA, and tensile testing
- Troubleshoot design, material, tolerance, and manufacturing issues
- Participate in supplier selection, tooling, and cost evaluations
- Lead or participate in cross-functional design reviews
- Prepare technical documentation and provide product training
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, Marketing, and suppliers
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Materials, Polymer, or Mechanical Engineering
- 3+ years of experience with Rubber materials, rubber formulation and rubber molding
- Knowledge of thermoplastic and thermoset materials, testing, and failure analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Willingness to travel globally up to 10%
Preferred qualifications
- FEA experience with Abaqus or ANSYS is a plus
- Moldflow Insight experience is a plus
