Sales Representative – Steel

Overview
An established and highly respected organization in the steel processing and distribution industry is seeking an experienced Account Manager / Sales Representative. This is an opportunity for a motivated, relationship-driven sales professional who understands the steel industry and knows how to grow business by strengthening existing customer relationships while actively developing new opportunities. The successful candidate will take ownership of a portfolio of customer accounts, managing demand, inventory, pricing, and overall account performance while pursuing new business that contributes to profitable, long-term growth.
What you'll do
- Manage and grow relationships with an established base of customer accounts
- Identify, pursue, and develop new customers and profitable business opportunities
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers and develop a strong understanding of their business, products, and ongoing requirements
- Plan and conduct customer visits, sales calls, presentations, and commercial discussions
- Negotiate pricing, volumes, terms, and other commercial considerations
- Monitor customer requirements and coordinate inventory levels to support demand
- Work collaboratively with purchasing, operations, and other internal teams to ensure customer expectations are met
- Provide accurate sales forecasts and communicate changing customer and market conditions
- Share relevant sales and purchasing intelligence with leadership and internal stakeholders
- Monitor account performance with an emphasis on profitable, sustainable growth
- Manage company resources and business expenses responsibly
- Travel to customer locations and other business-related destinations as needed
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience
- Previous experience in account management, outside sales, business development, or a related customer-facing role
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills
- Ability to balance customer service with profitability and broader business objectives
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities
- Comfort working with sales forecasts, inventory considerations, pricing, and customer demand
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability and willingness to travel as business needs require
Preferred qualifications
- Direct experience in the steel industry strongly preferred
- Steel industry experience strongly preferred, particularly within a steel service center, flat-rolled steel, metal processing, distribution, or related manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of flat-rolled steel products, customer applications, pricing dynamics, inventory management, and/or steel processing capabilities is highly desirable
- Experience selling to OEMs, fabricators, manufacturers, or other industrial customers is a plus
