Location: Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid) | Schedule: Full-time, Hybrid | Compensation: $180k - 250k

Overview

A rapidly growing high-tech entrepreneurial company based in West Los Angeles is seeking a Principal Research and Development (R&D) Engineer to lead the capture, planning, design, prototyping, and verification of wireless technology projects. This role is central to advancing the organization's wireless systems capabilities and driving new business development in a technically demanding, fast-paced environment.

What you'll do

• Provide technical management of R&D projects and programs, including overall system design and requirement specification
• Set and track development schedules and tasks
• Oversee paper design, simulation, software, FPGA, and testing efforts
• Engage directly with customers and prepare technical materials as needed
• Report to management for strategic planning and assessment
• Participate in R&D business development and capture efforts, including whitepaper and proposal preparation
• Analyze current technology and pitch future enhancements and strategies
• Communicate via phone, email, and in-person with government and industry contacts
• Collaborate with the senior R&D team on larger, team-wide projects
• Help set a comprehensive team-wide technology portfolio and pipeline
• Perform other related duties as needed
• Supervise a team of junior or senior engineers on assigned projects or R&D programs when necessary

Required qualifications

• M.S. or Ph.D. in a relevant technology field (wireless communications, signal processing, statistics, optimization, networking, RF design, etc.)
• 10 years of experience in the design and development of wireless systems
• 5 years of experience in technical project leadership (e.g., principal investigator)
• Experience participating in the complete technology development cycle, from design to field testing
• Familiarity with simulation and prototyping software such as C/C++, MATLAB, and Python
• Knowledge of RF propagation, channel modeling, and digital communication
• Understanding of wireless ad-hoc mesh networking, medium access, and routing algorithms
• Familiarity with signal processing algorithms, including MIMO, OFDM, and beam-nulling
• Knowledge of cognitive radio in congested and contested spectrum environments, including interference mitigation
• Familiarity with RF sensing, signal detection, and classification
• Strong technical writing, proposal preparation, and presentation skills
• Must be a U.S. person or U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts
• Employment contingent upon successful clearance of a background check
• Ability to travel infrequently to support customer interactions or test and demonstration events

• Compensation range: $180k - 250k
