Overview
A well-established and highly profitable regional CPA firm serving the West Los Angeles area is seeking an experienced Tax Partner to join its growing leadership team. This is a direct entry partner opportunity for a seasoned tax professional ready to guide client service, mentor staff, and help expand the firm's book of business. The role can be based out of an office in either L.A. or Woodland Hills, CA, with a hybrid schedule that supports a healthy work-life balance.
What you'll do
- Deliver the firm's full range of accounting, auditing, tax, and advisory services to assigned clients in line with their best interests and the firm's standards
- Review and sign off on tax returns, with strong command of corporate, partnership and high net worth individual tax matters
- Recruit, train, retain, and evaluate tax staff, including interviewing candidates, extending offers, and making promotion and compensation decisions
- Coordinate recruiting efforts at selected colleges and universities, directly or through designated staff
- Build new business by expanding services to current clients, cultivating prospective client relationships, and networking with bankers, attorneys, and investment bankers
- Help design and oversee the firm's annual training program, tailoring content for different levels of the accounting staff
- Monitor training initiatives run by the Management Consulting Services and Tax departments for their teams
- Maintain consistency in staff assignments and provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and career guidance to accounting staff
- Contribute to updates of the firm's Quality Control Document
- Stay current on tax laws and technical developments through professional literature, publications, and continuing education seminars
- Participate in firm practice development, committee work, and operational improvement discussions
- Support efficient firm operations and compliance practices when managing others
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Managing Partner
Required qualifications
- Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in public accounting, with demonstrated growth in the complexity, scope, and number of engagements managed
- Must be well versed in corporate, partnership and high net worth individual tax
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, or Master's degree in accounting
- Current and valid CPA license
- Completion of forty (40) hours of continuing professional education annually to maintain and build technical and business skills
- Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations across both audit and tax functions
- Proficiency with computers, tax research tools, financial software, and tax preparation software
- Demonstrated ability to generate new business for a CPA firm
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects accurately and efficiently
- Sound reasoning skills and the ability to multi-task effectively
- Experience supervising, coaching, and developing tax staff, including familiarity with individual team members' qualifications and training needs
- Experience participating in staff performance reviews, evaluations, and compensation decisions
