Overview
A well-established and growing public accounting firm is seeking an experienced Senior Manager – Tax to join its tax practice. This role is ideal for a seasoned public accounting professional who blends strong technical tax expertise with client relationship management and people leadership, taking ownership of a portfolio of business clients while mentoring staff and shaping practice strategy alongside firm leadership. The firm offers a clear path for long-term advancement, including potential progression toward partnership for a high-performing individual who demonstrates the necessary leadership, technical, client-service, and business-development capabilities.
What you'll do
- Manage and maintain strong relationships with business clients
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on complex tax matters
- Oversee tax planning, compliance, and consulting engagements
- Review complex business tax returns and related work
- Identify and resolve technical tax issues
- Manage engagement scope, staffing, timelines, budgets, and profitability
- Lead and develop Tax Managers, Seniors, and Staff
- Provide coaching, feedback, and professional development to team members
- Delegate work effectively and ensure quality standards are met
- Collaborate with firm Partners and senior leadership on client and practice strategy
- Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships
- Participate in business development and firm growth initiatives
- Develop or continue building a technical specialty or industry niche
- Contribute to recruiting, retention, and talent-development initiatives
- Stay current on tax law changes, market trends, and developments affecting clients
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- Active CPA license required
- Approximately 8+ years of public accounting experience
- Strong business tax background
- Experience working with privately held companies and business owners
- Strong knowledge of business tax compliance and planning
- Experience with partnerships, S-Corporations, and/or C-Corporations
- Strong technical tax research and review skills
- Demonstrated client relationship management experience
- Experience managing multiple client engagements and priorities
- Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or developing accounting professionals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate complex tax issues clearly to clients and internal teams
- Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills
Preferred qualifications
- Current Tax Manager, Senior Tax Manager, Tax Director, or equivalent
- Experience managing a portfolio of business clients
- Privately held and middle-market business tax experience
- Experience with Forms 1065, 1120S, and 1120
- Pass-through entity taxation
- Business-owner tax planning
- Tax advisory and consulting
- Engagement budgeting and profitability management
- Staff development and performance management
- Business development or client expansion experience
- Experience developing a technical or industry specialization
