Location: Austin, TX | Schedule: Full-time, on-site, M-F 8am to 5 pm (contract, projected 3 months with potential for permanent placement)

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join its clinical team in Austin, TX. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection and handling, supporting both patient care and laboratory operations, with the opportunity to transition into a permanent position.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy
• Package specimens for transport and store according to required temperature and protocol to maintain specimen integrity
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

Required qualifications

• 3 to 4 years of pediatric experience
• Must be skilled with hard sticks
• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states)
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 2 years of experience
