Overview

A clinical laboratory services employer is seeking a Phlebotomist for a contract assignment with potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to ensuring accurate, safe, and timely specimen collection and processing in support of patient care.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and complete decontamination procedures
• Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal)
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport, store samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to respond to inquiries

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
