Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist for a contract role projected to last 3 months, with potential to convert to a permanent position. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection and processing, supporting patient care and diagnostic workflows.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, labeling of specimens, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, and decontamination duties
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples according to required temperature guidelines
• Update patient information as needed
• Troubleshoot issues, assist with training, and recommend workflow improvements

Required qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Phlebotomist (1 to 2 years required)
• Experience with blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and decontamination procedures
• Proficiency with venipuncture and other specimen collection techniques
• Experience using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
