Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to support its laboratory operations. This is a contract position with an initial duration of 3 months and potential for permanent placement, ideal for someone experienced in specimen collection who thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Collect and store specimens (blood, urine, fecal) according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes to patients
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify against physician orders
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy
• Package and store specimens according to required temperature and transport protocols to maintain sample integrity
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
• Update patient information in relevant systems
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and communicate laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states)
• Minimum 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• 2 years of experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
