Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to support its laboratory operations in Mobile, AL. This is a contract position with a projected duration of 3 months and strong potential to convert to a permanent role, ideal for a detail-oriented professional experienced in working with patients across all age groups, including pediatric, geriatric, and hard-stick cases.

What you'll do

  • Perform blood draws and other specimen collections (e.g., urine, fecal) using straight and/or butterfly needles
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify test requisitions against scripts for accuracy
  • Package and store specimens according to required temperature and protocol to maintain sample integrity
  • Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
  • Update patient information and maintain accurate records
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend annual department training sessions
  • Answer telephone calls and relay laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
  • Troubleshoot issues and make workflow recommendations
  • Assist with training as needed

Required qualifications

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working with pediatric, geriatric, and hard-stick patients
