CNC Field Service Engineer – CNC Machine Tools

Overview
An established CNC machine tool manufacturer is looking to add a CNC Field Service Engineer to its team, based out of the Chicago, IL area. In this role, you'll be the technical front line for customers nationwide, handling installation, diagnostics, repair, and maintenance of CNC machine tools at their facilities. This is a high-impact position for someone who thrives on solving complex electrical and mechanical problems and wants to be the person customers trust to keep their equipment running at peak performance. The role reports to the CNC Field Service Manager, and while based in the Chicago area, candidates located within an hour of an airport and/or in IL, TN, KY, AL, or OH are preferred.
What you'll do
- Lead installation of new CNC machine tool systems at customer sites, including all options and accessories
- Carry out machine leveling, geometry checks, and final calibration to confirm optimal performance
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and application-level issues
- Pinpoint root causes of equipment problems and recommend repair or replacement solutions
- Deliver technical support both on-site and remotely via phone, email, and other channels
- Act as a technical resource for customers, distributors, and internal teams during troubleshooting and issue resolution
- Train customers and support project coordination activities as needed
- Represent the company at trade shows and company events, providing service support as required
- Keep thorough, accurate service documentation and reports
- Travel extensively (100%), including overnight stays and occasional weekend travel
- Take on other duties as assigned
Required qualifications
- 5+ years of experience maintaining and servicing CNC machine tools, covering both electrical and mechanical systems
- 5+ years of experience delivering remote technical support within the machine tool industry
- Demonstrated experience installing and servicing machining centers, including leveling and geometric alignment
- Strong background in PLC programming and troubleshooting
- Hands-on experience with CNC control systems, including FANUC
- Solid grasp of power circuits and industrial electrical systems
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service abilities
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively (100% during weekdays) and work independently in the field
