Overview

A regional CPA firm serving the Woodland Hills area is building out its Assurance practice and seeks an Audit Manager with a non profit specialization. This is a firm that emphasizes a fast track to Director and a reasonable work-life balance, and the Manager will serve as the key link between Partners, clients, and professional staff while helping grow the practice's non profit client base.

What you'll do

  • Manage all phases of audit or review engagements across multiple non profit clients simultaneously
  • Maintain year-round contact with clients and develop a thorough understanding of each client's business and control systems to build strong relationships
  • Keep the engagement Director or Partner informed of important developments, flag potential issues, and recommend solutions
  • Apply technical skills and professional and Firm standards to advise clients effectively
  • Ensure engagements are properly scheduled and staffed
  • Build and maintain a thorough understanding of the firm's audit approach
  • Create, track, and manage budgets for assigned Assurance and Advisory engagements, explaining any overruns to the Director or Partner and identifying change order opportunities
  • Anticipate problem areas and questions likely to arise during engagements
  • Review financial statements and other client deliverables
  • Direct, train, supervise, and review the work of senior and staff accountants
  • Contribute to staff performance evaluations and periodic counseling
  • Participate in the firm's business development initiatives

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field
  • At least five years of public accounting experience, specifically auditing non profit clients
  • Current and valid CPA license

Preferred qualifications

  • Ability to lead a team and function as an effective team member
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assignments efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in the United States, standards issued by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, United States Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, and Government Auditing Standards issued by the Comptroller General of the United States
  • Cooperative and responsive to training, supervision, and constructive feedback
  • Ability to direct, review, and train staff, experienced staff, and seniors
