Overview
A healthcare services organization is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist for a contract engagement with a projected duration of 3 months and potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection, handling, and patient care support within a laboratory or clinical setting.
What you'll do
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
- Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
- Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
- Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
- Package specimens for transport
- Store specimens at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
- Attend annual department trainings
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
Required qualifications
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
- Minimum of 5 work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 2 years of experience
