Overview
A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist for a contract position with strong potential to convert to a permanent role. This is an opportunity to join a clinical laboratory team supporting both pediatric and geriatric patient populations, playing a key role in accurate specimen collection and quality patient care.
What you'll do
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
- Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
- Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
- Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
- Package specimens for transport
- Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow protocol-specific procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
- Attend annual department trainings
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
- Assist with various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations
Required qualifications
- Experience with pediatrics and geriatrics
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
- Minimum 2 years of experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- High School Diploma or GED
