Tax Senior Manager / Director

Overview
A progressive, highly profitable, and well-established CPA firm serving a wide range of industries is seeking a Tax Senior Manager / Director to join its leadership team. This is a client-facing leadership role responsible for overseeing complex tax engagements, mentoring staff, and helping shape the firm's tax practice.
What you'll do
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, identifying issues and proactively communicating solutions
- Own client relationships and oversee engagement work
- Manage staff on engagement deliverables including financial statements, tax returns, and work papers
- Perform technical and strategic reviews as part of the final engagement review team to ensure quality standards, timeliness, and budget adherence
- Review complex tax returns, including international, federal, and multi-state returns for C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, high-net-worth individuals, trusts, estates, and foundations
- Understand client goals and needs, servicing clients directly
- Provide clients with recommendations and identify growth opportunities
- Research tax issues and provide guidance to clients
- Mentor, coach, train, supervise, and evaluate staff
- Foster a positive team culture and support management decisions
- Engage in business development and client relationship management
- Assist department leadership in strategic development of the department
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field
- 7-10 years of technical tax experience in public accounting or a related field
- 8+ years of recent public accounting tax experience, including preparing/reviewing complex tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts
- 4+ years of management/supervisory experience
- Active CPA, EA, or equivalent certification
- Experience in year-end tax planning for individuals and corporations
- Ability to manage all aspects of client engagements
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing across all levels of an organization
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability, with strong operational and project management skills
- Strong time management and follow-through skills
- Proficient use of applicable technology, including RIA Checkpoint, Thomson Reuters tax software (UltraTax, Workpapers, Practice CS, File Cabinet), QuickBooks, Microsoft Suite (Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Integrity, dependability, and trustworthiness
Preferred qualifications
- Master's degree in Accounting, Taxation, or related field
- Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements
- Knowledge of retirement planning
- Multi-state tax compliance knowledge
- Financial statement and general ledger experience
- QuickBooks knowledge
