Overview
A rapidly growing, market-leading manufacturer in the Brown Deer, WI area is seeking a Plant Automation Subject Matter Expert to serve as the facility's principal technical authority on high-capacity automation lines, robotics, and control systems. This direct-hire role offers a stable 1st shift schedule and the chance to lead technical strategy rather than perform basic reactive repairs.
What you'll do
- Serve as Plant Automation SME, performing advanced diagnostics, systemic logic reviews, and precision repairs on high-capacity industrial automation lines and complex robotic cells
- Troubleshoot PLC and control systems by monitoring live code, executing online diagnostic checks, and optimizing control logic on Allen-Bradley (RSLogix/Studio 5000) and Siemens (TIA Portal) PLC platforms
- Read and interpret multi-page electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and fluid power system prints to isolate intermittent control loop issues and high-level faults
- Perform preventative maintenance and systemic repairs on multi-phase AC/DC electrical distribution systems, high-pressure hydraulics, and advanced pneumatics
- Use welding and custom fabrication skills to modify machine frameworks, reinforce heavy assemblies, and repair critical equipment on-site
- Partner with plant leadership to reduce operational downtime while coaching and mentoring junior maintenance technicians
Required qualifications
- 8+ years of industrial maintenance and automation experience within high-volume, continuous-production manufacturing environments
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting industrial robotics, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and live PLC logic
- Expert capability reading intricate electrical, electronic control, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics
- Demonstrated welding and custom shop fabrication capabilities for heavy industrial machinery repair and structural modifications
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card) required, residing within a comfortable daily commuting distance of the Brown Deer / Northern Milwaukee County, WI area
Preferred qualifications
- Associate degree in Automated Manufacturing, Industrial Electronics, Mechatronics, or equivalent technical certifications
- Direct programming or troubleshooting experience on FANUC, ABB, or Yaskawa robotic arms
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and preventative maintenance optimization
