Overview

A well-established, highly profitable regional CPA firm is seeking a Tax Senior Manager to join its growing team. This role offers a clear path to Partner and the opportunity to serve as a technical tax expert while helping guide the firm's staff and client service standards.

What you'll do

  • Perform technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in discipline or industry
  • Assume full responsibility for larger tax returns and delegate to tax preparers as needed
  • Assume client service responsibility for clients worked with directly or as delegated from the Partner
  • Delegate and manage governmental tax examinations; may represent clients before appropriate taxing authorities
  • Develop trained staff through recruiting, performance evaluations, development training aids, and acting as an instructor in professional development programs
  • Ensure smooth flow of tax returns through the preparation system for accurate, complete, and timely delivery
  • Ensure accurate and timely billing and collection processes
  • Prepare other reports and projects as requested by partners
  • Research and evaluate tax preparation and tax research software for recommendation to partners
  • Participate in firm practice development through referral sources, community, and industry activities

Required qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current tax laws
  • Proficiency in computer tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software programs
  • Occasional overtime work required throughout the year; heavy overtime from January 1 to April 15, may exceed 55 hours per week
  • Seven to ten years' experience in public accounting, demonstrating proven progression in tax complexity, scope, and research
  • At least two (2) years' experience representing clients before taxing authorities
  • Minimum one (1) year experience supervising and directing work of tax preparers
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required
  • Minimum of forty hours of continuing education required each year
  • Current and valid certified public accountant's license required
  • Must be a member in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in taxation preferred
