Location: Tampa, FL | Schedule: Full-time, on-site, 7am-3:30pm M-F, contract (3 months, potential for perm)

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a Phlebotomist to support laboratory operations in Tampa, FL. This role is critical to ensuring accurate specimen collection and handling, supporting both patient care and laboratory workflow.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and complete decontamination tasks
• Update patient information as needed
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture or other specimen collection process (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

Required qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience required
• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed, as required in some states
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
