Overview

A national leader in title insurance and escrow services is seeking a Senior Title Underwriting Counsel to join its Agency Division. This hybrid role serves as a trusted legal advisor on complex commercial real estate title insurance matters, providing underwriting guidance, risk analysis, and transactional support to internal teams, agents, and customers.

What you'll do

  • Provide title insurance underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel, agents, and customers related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies
  • Utilize title insurance underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits to underwrite the issuance of title insurance
  • Provide guidance to company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement services
  • Issue title insurance underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes
  • Prepare and present educational content (in-person and/or remote) for company personnel, agents, and/or customers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required qualifications

  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Active Bar Admission in Connecticut, in good standing
  • 5+ years of substantive experience in title insurance underwriting or comparable commercial real estate experience in a law firm setting
  • General understanding of the process of title insurance underwriting for real estate transactions and the issuance of title insurance policies
  • Ability to interpret and apply title insurance underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits
  • Solid understanding of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of CT real estate transactions, title, and settlement processes
  • Familiarity with applicable Connecticut real estate law, including federal and state regulations
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders and external clients
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage significant transaction volume, multi-task, prioritize, and follow up in a timely manner
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Effective communicator with strong negotiation skills, able to deliver guidance with clarity, professionalism, tact, and diplomacy
  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, with the ability to assess risk and provide practical solutions
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to act decisively when needed
  • Creative, solution-oriented approach to resolving complex title challenges
  • Ability to work hybrid, 4 days a week in office, initially

Compensation and benefits

  • Salary range: $130,000 – $215,000+, based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements, qualifications, and geographic location
