Regional Project Manager – Industrial HVAC/Refrigeration

Overview
A customer-focused industrial services company in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking an experienced Regional Project Manager with 5+ years experience to oversee HVAC and refrigeration projects from planning through completion. This role is critical to ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to a high standard of quality and safety for customers throughout the region.
What you'll do
- Ensure the workforce completes work in compliance with OSHA requirements and customer site-specific safety standards
- Manage service costs and profitability for active contracts and miscellaneous expenses
- Track personal time and expenses, ensuring accurate project assignment
- Process invoices in a timely manner and communicate job-in-progress (JIP) updates to accounting monthly
- Contribute to overall company profitability by acting in the best interest of customers, vendors, and employees
- Develop project task plans, accounting for prerequisite tasks, resources, and lead times to meet customer completion dates
- Project job costs and evaluate profitability against company targets
- Develop resource plans and issue contracts and purchase orders to vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Communicate labor requirements to the superintendent to allow for efficient job planning and sourcing
- Meet with existing customers to identify potential future work opportunities
- Maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers to stay current on industry developments and equipment innovations
- Incorporate customer needs and feedback into detailed solution designs
- Develop preliminary solution designs with assistance from a senior project engineer
- Develop high-level budgets for design options for internal review
- Develop detailed cost estimates covering equipment, materials, labor, and subcontractors
- Use estimating tools to prepare hard quotes, including value-added alternatives when appropriate
- Present proposed solutions to customers and pursue new business opportunities
- Mentor less experienced employees to support their growth and adoption of best practices
- Enhance project management and estimating tools, policies, and procedures
- Support and help further develop the company's core values and collaborative culture
Required qualifications
- 5+ years experience in a related project management or construction role
- Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field or construction management
- 10+ years of excellent performance in a construction-related role, including at least five years at a foreman level
- Technical knowledge of industrial refrigeration, mechanical, and HVAC systems components
- Familiarity with project management disciplines and techniques, including project planning, Gantt charts, and CPM
- Knowledge of OSHA and EPA requirements
- Strong safety mindset and knowledge of safe work practices, including customer-specific safety and maintenance procedures
- Ability to estimate, quote, and sell new business profitably
- Team-oriented approach and collaborative working style
- Willingness to travel occasionally, generally within the region and occasionally outside it; overnight travel is not typical but may occasionally be required
Preferred qualifications
- Technical knowledge of ammonia refrigeration is a plus
- PMP certification is a plus
- Familiarity with software such as Raken, Procore, Monday.com, Microsoft Project, or Bluebeam is nice to have but not required
