Location: Syracuse, NY | Schedule: Full Time, on-site with occasional travel | Compensation: $100,000-$130,000

Overview

An established commercial general contractor is seeking a Pre-Construction Full Charge Estimator - Assistant Manager to lead preconstruction efforts across all types of building construction projects. This role is central to driving new business, managing client and vendor relationships, and overseeing the estimating process from proposal through construction hand-off.

What you'll do

• Lead preconstruction management for all CSI divisions across renovation and ground-up construction projects
• Oversee development of preconstruction staff including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance
• Develop strategies for new business development, marketing, and procurement of new client relationships
• Establish and maintain relationships with new and existing clients
• Manage procurement of documents, information, and materials for proposals and presentations
• Lead preparation of proposals and presentations for negotiated, hard bid public and private projects
• Develop preconstruction strategy and approach for each proposal and presentation
• Manage procurement and maintenance of subcontractor and vendor relationships
• Provide clear scope of work to bidders and pre-qualify new bidders
• Lead competitive bidding, budgeting, forecasting, and client contract negotiations
• Analyze potential project risk factors on a case-by-case basis
• Lead assembly of quantity take-offs and subcontractor/vendor quotations, coordinating scope and cost analysis across all CSI divisions
• Utilize company estimating and quantity takeoff software, including stack estimating and bid procurement services
• Apply current estimating formats, practices, and procedures
• Assist in developing new, more efficient estimating practices after mastering existing procedures
• Maintain estimating records for each proposal type and category
• Lead preconstruction hand-off to the Construction Department
• Establish and maintain a cost database for all CSI divisions
• Travel to project locations and meet with clients, owners, and prospective bidders as necessary

Required qualifications

• Minimum 5-8 years experience in a similar estimating position for a Commercial Building General Contractor
• Strong knowledge of all types of commercial construction
• Extensive knowledge of CSI format
• Extensive knowledge of all building construction trades and disciplines
• Strong personnel management, leadership, and planning skills
• High level of organization and management abilities
• Deadline and detail oriented
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Knowledge of various computer software programs relevant to construction estimating and blueprint reading
• Skilled in quotation and documentation presentation and sales
• Ability to travel to project locations and meet with clients/owners/prospective bidders as necessary

Preferred qualifications

• 4-year degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Building Construction discipline preferred
