Location: St. Joseph, MI | Schedule: Full-time, on-site | Compensation: Competitive salary plus annual bonus potential

Overview

A profitable, long-established automotive manufacturer with over five decades of stability and a growing roster of OEM customers is seeking a Quality Engineer to join its team. Operating from a newly remodeled, technology-driven facility, this role partners closely with production, engineering, and a fellow Quality Engineer to drive customer quality, reduce issues, and support new model launches.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the direct point of contact for key customers on quality issues
  • Determine root cause of quality issues and implement corrective actions
  • Support the manufacturing floor with quality issues and concerns (up to 25% of time on the floor)
  • Review control plans
  • Complete weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for customers and management
  • Assist operations and engineering with problem solving
  • Monitor and update customer portals
  • Champion formal problem-solving teams
  • Improve gauge and SPC processes
  • Support new model launch activities
  • Deliver quality-related training
  • Monitor and minimize scrap
  • Utilize Minitab software
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience considered in lieu of a degree
  • At least four years of quality engineering experience in a mass production machining environment or with a tier I or tier II automotive supplier
  • Experience leading root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
  • Formal problem-solving skills such as 8D, 5WHY, etc.
  • Document control experience, including control plans, APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, etc.
  • Ability to read blueprints, ideally with GD&T experience
  • Working knowledge of calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other quality tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Preferred qualifications

  • ERP system experience
  • Lean/Six Sigma methodologies
  • Strong customer communication skills
  • Experience with product launches
  • Strong continuous improvement background with proven examples of scrap reduction and efficiency improvements
  • SPC experience, including SPC software
