Location: Buffalo, NY | Schedule: Full-time, on-site at a manufacturing plant | Compensation: $85,500 - $123,200 annualized

Overview

An established manufacturing company is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead power and control systems strategy at its Buffalo, NY plant. This role provides key technical leadership in equipment specification, maintenance, systems optimization, and technician development to help the plant achieve and exceed reliability targets.

What you'll do

• Serve as primary administrator and troubleshooter for plant power and control systems as a key member of plant technical leadership
• Develop and manage power and control standards and ensure their application on all projects and upgrades
• Lead execution of the site masterplan for power and controls systems, including understanding of the installed base and replacement planning for obsolete equipment/technologies
• Build and maintain a sustainable system for plant Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) technician skill development
• Ensure technician compliance with local and national regulatory codes (NFPA 70, NFPA 70e, NFPA 79, and OSHA 1910)
• Validate MES data from PLCs and support Process Engineers in conditioning PLC data for effective data analysis and application development
• Support design and implementation of machine control and process automation applications, including control strategies, HMI design, MES applications, and KPI development
• Identify losses and develop strategies to eliminate them in the areas of safety, quality, reliability, and cost
• Own key elements related to electrical safety (LOTO, Electrical PPE, energized work permits, low voltage qualification) and Quality/CCP compliance (checkweighers, metal detectors, vision systems, ingredient flows, temperatures)
• Collaborate with leadership on selection and installation of new equipment, becoming the technical expert and training others on control systems
• Serve as project manager for initiatives ranging from E&I-focused projects to complete capital projects
• Provide power and controls engineering support on capital initiatives
• Learn and apply control, simulation, and process modeling technologies to improve process and packaging operations

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
• 2 years of controls or electrical engineering experience
• Understanding of machine and/or process control hardware, instrumentation, and software (e.g., Allen Bradley PLC, ControlLogix, Wonderware HMI, and Rockwell FactoryTalk)

• Compensation range: $85,500 - $123,200 annualized
