Overview

An established automotive component manufacturer in the Wilson, NC area is seeking a Quality Engineer to strengthen its plant-level quality function. This role is central to ensuring products meet customer specifications and industry standards, working across design review, supplier management, and continuous improvement to keep quality performance on track.

What you'll do

  • Apply core AIAG quality tools—Control Plan, PFMEA, PPAP, APQP, MSA, and SPC—to resolve quality issues
  • Investigate customer complaints and serve as the primary point of contact for customer quality support
  • Manage internal and external quality concerns, including Fast Track Response and pareto analysis of defects
  • Support continuous improvement efforts such as SPC and capability studies
  • Contribute to IATF 16949 program activities and maintain the customer quality system interface
  • Resolve supplier quality issues and oversee the quality hold area
  • Build and maintain approved PPAP status across all customer accounts
  • Review hold-status products and determine appropriate disposition
  • Coordinate rework and sorting operations as needed
  • Help implement corrective actions for internal and external quality problems
  • Create, review, and update job books to maintain accurate documentation of standards and customer specifications
  • Use structured problem-solving methods such as 8D and 5Why to address quality concerns
  • Manage customer and supplier concerns professionally and effectively
  • Conduct random audits of problematic jobs, partnering with manufacturing team leaders and managers on improvement
  • Perform audits supporting overall plant operations
  • Oversee vendor quality control and certification of measuring equipment
  • Follow and enforce company safety rules and regulations

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BS or BA)
  • Recent experience in the Automotive Industry
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 Quality Systems
  • Experience with the APQP system
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Demonstrated technical skills on product and process
  • Experience with program launch at an automotive manufacturing plant
